Northern Collaboration 2020 Conference

Northern Collaboration 2020 Conference

Access, Success, Progress

Friday 4th September, 2020, Manchester Metropolitan University

Call for Papers

We invite you to submit a proposal for the 2020 Northern Collaboration conference, to be held on Friday 4th September at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Theme: Access, Success, Progress

Context: Library services are vital to a successful student and academic life-cycle. How well they support access (in all senses of the word), success and progress affects everything from how an individual experiences everyday life on campus to their institution's ranking in the Teaching Excellence Framework.

How can we ensure that those who need us can access our services? How do we support our users in their journey? How can we help them succeed – and what does success look like?

Whether you work in or with a library we would like to hear about your projects and collaborations that contribute to the theme. Topics could include, but are not limited to:

  • Improving access for under-represented users
  • Accessibility and additional support
  • Enabling access to research and special collections
  • Supporting progression of students, academics or library staff
  • Progress through digital innovation in resource and content management
  • Creating successful learning spaces
  • Building successful relationships with external users
  • Measuring impact and success
  • Demonstrating value at all levels of a library service

Who can submit a proposal?

We welcome papers from all colleagues working within any institutions, whether they are Northern Collaboration member institutions or not, and we particularly encourage submissions from those who are looking to present for the first time. Experienced presenters are also welcome to submit a proposal.

Submissions are invited from individuals, as well as collaborative contributions from within one institution, across institutions or between an institution and a collaborative partner working outside of the institution (maximum 2 presenters per submission).  They can be focused on, but not limited to, the above topics. We also welcome submissions that may fall outside of these themes but will still be of relevance and interest to our delegates.

Discounted presenter tickets (£50) will be available for one presenter per submission. Any additional presenters will be charged the full delegate rate (£100).

To have a truly engaging conference, we believe we need presenters who bring a variety of perspectives and backgrounds and therefore we particularly encourage and welcome submissions from members of the BAME community, who are under-represented in our sector.

How to submit a proposal

We are accepting two types of proposal as follows:

  • Short paper - 20 minute presentation including 5 minutes for questions
  • Workshop - 45 minute workshop with interactive elements

We particularly encourage proposals which include innovative methods of presentation that aim to engage and interact with the audience.

Submissions will be reviewed and selected by a panel comprising planning group members, and outcomes will be notified by the end of May.

Please click here to complete the proposal form.

Submissions should be received by 30th April 2020.
