Wednesday 18th & Thursday 19th November 2020

Meet our sponsors

Call for Papers now closed (11th September)

Papers have been received for the 2020 Northern Collaboration conference, to be held online on 18th and 19th November 2020. The Conference Team will inform successful candidates shortly and announce the programme in early October.

Theme: Access, Success, Progress

Library services are vital to a successful student and academic life-cycle. Now more than ever, libraries need to be able to support access, particularly virtually, so that students can progress in their learning and academic staff deliver high quality teaching in a hybrid environment which blends on-campus and online.

How can we ensure that those who need us can access our services virtually and on campus? How do we support our users in their journey remotely and in person? How can we improve access for under-represented users, and ensure our services are diverse and inclusive? How can we help them succeed – and what does success look like? Can and should that include the quality of individual student assignments, the quality of the learning experience and the contribution libraries make to TEF outcomes?

Whether you work in or with a library we would like to hear about your projects and collaborations that contribute to the theme with particular emphasis on delivering services and supporting your users remotely. Topics could include, but are not limited to:

  • Improving access and inclusivity for under-represented users
  • Accessibility and additional support
  • Enabling access to research and special collections
  • Supporting progression of students, academics or library staff
  • Progress through digital innovation in resource and content management
  • Creating successful learning spaces in line with social distancing
  • Building successful relationships with external users via online platforms
  • Success in diversifying services and decolonising resources
  • Measuring impact and success
  • Demonstrating value at all levels of a library service

Who can submit a proposal?

We welcome papers from all colleagues working within any institutions, whether they are Northern Collaboration member institutions or not, and we particularly encourage submissions from those who are looking to present for the first time. Experienced presenters are also welcome to submit a proposal.

Submissions are invited from individuals, as well as collaborative contributions from within one institution, across institutions or between an institution and a collaborative partner working outside the institution.  They can be focused on, but not limited to, the above topics. We also welcome submissions that may fall outside of these themes but will still be of relevance and interest to our delegates.

To have a truly engaging conference, we believe we need presenters who bring a variety of perspectives and backgrounds and therefore we particularly encourage and welcome submissions from members of the BAME community, who are under-represented in our sector.

There will be no charge for presenting at, or attending, the 2020 Northern Collaboration Online Conference.

What types of paper can be submitted?

Proposals are welcome for either traditional presentations or interactive workshops. Sessions will be scheduled for 30 minutes as standard - this includes time for questions. Papers could be pre-recorded or presented live. Workshops that require more time can also be submitted, and the scheduling discussed with the planning group. Please note that all content will need to comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines at the time of the conference. We particularly encourage proposals which include innovative methods of presentation that aim to engage and interact with the audience.

How to submit a proposal

Proposals should be submitted via this proposal form.

Submissions should be received by Friday 11th September 2020. They will be reviewed and selected by a panel comprising planning group members, and outcomes will be notified in September.
