Learning Spaces SIG - Terms of Reference

 

Overall purpose: 

 

Provides an oversight of current, emerging developments and future trends in sustainable learning space design across campuses and in academic libraries. The focus is on highlighting and sharing innovation which actively support developments in learning, teaching and research and wider service delivery. This via innovative design rather than only architectural merit.

 

Offers a forum for the sharing and dissemination of best practice in Learning Space Project Management 

 

The Group will share findings and developments through a range of communication including events, briefings and visit opportunities.

 

In particular:

  • To monitor and identify key trends and developments in  space design in library and wider campus settings
  • To monitor and identify trends in space use and demand in campus settings
  • To identify and share innovations in learning, teaching and research which influence space design and mindful of sustainability and environmental factors
  • To identify and share trends in design which support shared and multi-functional service delivery 
  • To promote understanding of how the user experience can shape  space design and use
  • To explore space developments in the UK and Internationally
  • To provide opportunities for information exchange and the dissemination of best practice across the range of activities related to Learning Space Design and Project Management including project initiation, stakeholder and supplier relationships and procurement. 
  • To promote and share understanding of VFM/ROI and high impact outcomes in learning space design
  • To provide a “no obligation” forum and showcase for suppliers to maintain currency in latest developments in furniture and equipment
