Archives & Special Collections Special Interest Group (SIG)

At the NC Directors’ meeting in July it was agreed to set up a Special Interest Group (SIG) for Archives and Special Collections. This will build on the Learning Exchange held last April (see Storify here), which identified a number of potential areas for collaboration including training, benchmarking, digitisation, archival metadata, collective recruitment and the ‘flying archivist’. Participation is welcome from all  NC institutions, regardless of the size of their collections or whether they employ specialist archives staff.  The National Archives (TNA) is also keen to work with the new Archives group, given TNA’s remit to engage with the HE sector.

Our colleagues at the University of Hull have offered to lead the new group, co-ordinated by University Archivist Simon Wilson. If your institution would like to be involved, please contact Simon directly:  s.wilson@hull.ac.uk or  01482 317502

A short online questionnaire will be sent to the nominated point of contact in each institution, to identify the key issues and their respective priority for that institution. This will then help inform a relevant and engaging programme of activities.
